What Is Glitch Text (Zalgo Text)?
Glitch text, often called Zalgo text, is ordinary text with extra Unicode combining characters stacked on top of each letter. Those combining marks are designed to sit above, below, or through a base character, and when several are layered onto the same letter the result looks corrupted, shaky, or "cursed" rather than clean. Nothing about the underlying letters changes, so the text can still be selected, copied, and read by anything that handles Unicode text.
How Unicode Combining Characters Create the Effect
Unicode reserves a block of combining diacritical marks, mostly in the U+0300 to U+036F range, for accents and other marks that attach to whatever character comes before them rather than standing on their own. Normally a font places just one or two of these per letter, such as an accent on an "e". This generator instead attaches a random handful of marks from the above, below, and middle groups to almost every character you type, so the letter gets buried under layered marks instead of a single accent. Higher intensity settings simply raise how many marks get added to each character.
Where Glitch Text Works (and Its Limits)
Because this is real Unicode text, it will paste into most modern apps, social media bios, and chat clients that accept ordinary typing. How it actually renders is a different question: browsers, operating systems, and fonts each decide independently how many stacked marks to draw and how far they extend, so the exact same text can look tame in one app and much heavier in another. Some platforms also cap message length, strip unusual Unicode ranges, or normalize text on save, which can quietly reduce or remove the effect. Heavily stacked text is also harder for screen readers and search indexing to interpret, so it is worth keeping the effect for decorative or casual use rather than important content.

Is glitch text a special font?

Will glitch text look the same everywhere I paste it?
Not exactly. Every platform renders stacked combining marks a little differently, and some will trim, limit, or normalize unusual Unicode input. Test the result in the specific app or site you plan to use before relying on how it looks.
Does a higher intensity always look better?
Not necessarily. Low and Medium stay readable while still looking glitchy, while High and Extreme stack many more marks per letter, which can overwhelm the base text and make it hard to read or trigger length limits on some platforms. Try a lower setting first if the result needs to stay legible.

Why is there a 500 character limit?
Each character can gain over a dozen extra combining marks at higher intensities, so a long input can multiply into a much longer block of text. The limit keeps the generator fast and keeps the output from becoming unwieldy to copy or paste.
